The Department of Estates are responsible for all building projects and maintenance of the 463 buildings and facilities across the main University campus. The residences campus is situated nearby toward the West of the city.

The Capital and Customer Projects teams incorporate the 'design wing' of the department, delivering new buildings, improvements and refurbishments. They provide a professional project management service working in partnership with consultants and contractors. An ever increasing spectrum of work is undertaken from providing new facilities such as state of the art laboratories and computer suites through to fire precautions and day to day repairs.

The Operations section has a workforce of around 40 Technicians and Engineers carrying out dedicated, reactive and planned maintenance tasks on mechanical and electrical plant. Estates Engineers control maintenance contracts for specialist plant.

Meanwhile, a politician has lodged a legal challenge to the talks, saying they are unconstitutional and do not involve all Kenyans.

Antony Kirori, who vied for a parliamentary seat and lost to Mr Odinga, says any resolution would alter the country's governance structure.
